Tetrahydro Citral, also known as 3,7-Dimethyloctanal, is a colorless liquid with a strong, fresh, green, citrus-aldehydic, rosy, and floral odor. It is a saturated aldehyde derived from citral by hydrogenation of its double bonds and is a widely used fragrance chemical.
Primarily used as a fragrance ingredient in various consumer products. It can also be used in minor quantities as a flavor ingredient.
Found in a wide range of perfumed products including fine fragrances, colognes, soaps, shampoos, detergents, fabric softeners, air fresheners, household cleaning products, and cosmetics. It is valued for imparting fresh, clean, citrusy, and green notes to formulations, blending well with floral, aldehydic, and citrus accords.
Generally considered safe for use in fragrance and flavor applications when used within recommended concentrations. Like many aldehydes, it has a potential for skin sensitization in some individuals, particularly at high concentrations or in sensitive skin types. Standard chemical handling precautions, such as good ventilation, use of gloves, and eye protection, are advisable. It is a moderately flammable liquid.
