Guaicwood Oil, also known as Guaiacwood Oil, is an essential oil derived from the heartwood of the Bulnesia sarmientoi tree, native to the Gran Chaco region of South America. It is characterized by its unique smoky, woody, rosy, and slightly balsamic aroma. At room temperature, it is typically a solid or semi-solid waxy mass that requires gentle warming to become liquid. The main chemical constituents are sesquiterpene alcohols, primarily guaiol, bulnesol, and alpha-bulnesene.
Primarily used in perfumery and aromatherapy. In perfumery, it serves as a base note and a fixative, adding warmth, depth, and a lingering smoky-woody scent to fragrance compositions. It is also used in aromatherapy for its grounding and calming properties.
